Trucker Critically Injured After Smashing Into Semi Attempting To Merge From Shoulder
Battle Mountain, Nevada – One trucker was critically injured when the semi he was driving smashed into the rear of another tractor-trailer Monday morning along Interstate 80.
The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) says at approximately 5:35 p.m., 28-year-old Eniel Batishth-Carballo of Las Vegas was trying to merge a tractor-trailer onto I-80 from the right shoulder. That’s when the second semi driven by 42-year-old Brent Bingham of Hyde Park was approaching from behind and driving in the right lane.
NHP says Bingham did not slow down and slammed into the Carballo at full speed. “The front of Mr. Bingham’s truck hit the rear trailer (full impact) of the merging truck,” NHP trooper Jim Stewart said in a news release.
“Both commercial vehicles came to rest on their wheels in the eastbound travel lanes blocking I-80 for approximately 3 hours,” Stewart said. “Mr. Bingham sustained critical injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.
Batishth-Carballo was also transported to a nearby hospital and was later released.
