Trucker Crushed to Death While Trying to Secure Load Along Turnpike Shoulder
Oklahoma County, OK – A trucker was killed over the weekend after the load he was hauling fell on him as he was attempting to check it on the shoulder of the Turner Turnpike.
Mario Terrell Harrison, 37, of Cameron, NC, was traveling westbound on the Turnpike just south of Luther shortly around 2:12 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, according to a release from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
Near mile marker 149, Harrison pulled the 2020 Freightliner he was operating to the shoulder and exited the semi-truck.
OHP stated it appeared Harrison was attempting to “secure or check” his load.
However, for unknown reasons, the load shifted and fell on top of him.
Harrison was pinned underneath the fallen load for an undisclosed amount of time, OHP stated.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene with internal and external injuries to his head, neck, and trunk.
Officials did not disclose what Harrison was hauling at the time of the accident.
The incident is under investigation.
