Trucker Facing Charges After Loose Tire Strikes and Kills Motorist
Peach County, GA – A Florida truck driver is facing numerous charges after a motorist was tragically killed last Sunday afternoon along I-75 when her vehicle was struck by a tire that came loose from the trucker’s big rig.
According to the Peach County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Yurien Bello, of Miami, was charged on Tuesday with 2nd degree vehicular homicide, unsafe vehicle/equipment, and defective tires – all misdemeanors.
The fatal accident occurred along I-75 shortly before 2 p.m. on August 11 near Byron, GA.
Investigators say Bello was operating southbound when two tires flew off of his tractor-trailer.
One of the loose tires then bounced across the median and into the northbound lanes.
It then collided into the windshield of a passenger vehicle driven by 36-year-old Jennifer Thomas of Gray, GA.
Thomas was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
