Trucker Fatally Strikes Motorist Who Took to Skateboard After Vehicle Ran Out of Gas
Tooele County, UT — A trucker pulling triple trailers struck and killed a pedestrian on a skateboard late Friday night along an interstate in Utah.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), the deadly accident occurred at approximately 10:37 p.m. along Interstate 80 near milepost 11.
Investigators said a motorist had a “mechanical issue or ran out of gas,” and parked his vehicle in the emergency lane along the roadway.
Rather than wait for help, UHP reported the motorist, using GPS on his phone, hopped on a skateboard and headed for a nearby exit.
Sadly, he did not get far as investigators said he was struck in the number two lane about a 1/4 mile from his vehicle.
The pedestrian was airlifted to an area hospital and died the next morning, UHP said.
UHP has not released the identity of the victim nor the trucker involved in the accident.
