Trucker Loses Fingers in Accident After Motorist Cut Him Off, Officials Say
Colleton County, SC – A trucker lost two fingers in a rollover crash in eastern South Carolina last week after he was allegedly cut off by a fellow motorist.
According to the Colleton County Fire Rescue (CCFR), the accident took place just after 9 a.m. on Friday, February 19.
Witnesses told authorities the green Mack tractor pulling a tanker swerved to avoid a car which had changed lanes in front of the truck.
When the trucker swerved, he drove into the median and overturned onto the driver’s side.
Wet weather conditions contributed to the truck overturning, according to CCFR.
Officials said several bystanders were able to help the trucker out of the crashed big rig and wait for authorities to arrive to the scene.
Once paramedics arrived, they began treating the driver for his injuries, which included missing two fingers.
It was not disclosed how the driver lost the fingers in the accident.
According to CCFR, firefighters searched the overturned semi following the accident and located the driver’s two severed fingers.
Authorities did not reveal if doctors were able to reattach the driver’s fingers.
The incident is reportedly being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
