Trucker Loses His Life in Horrific Crash Off of I-78 Overpass

Weisenberg, PA – A Pennsylvania trucker was killed early Tuesday morning when his truck went off an overpass and landed upside down on the roadway below.

According to the Weisenberg Fire Department (WFD), crews from the station were dispatched for a “wires down call” around 3:30 a.m.

Once on scene, WFD noticed a semi-truck upside down alongside New Smithville Road near the Interstate 78 overpass.

Upon discovery, the call type was upgraded and state police and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.

A local towing company also arrived to assist with its heavy wrecker rotator.

State police say the truck was bobtail and traveling on I-78 when for unknown reasons left the roadway and overpass plummeting to the ground below.

Photos reveal the truck upside down, atop wires near the overpass.

The truck’s driver, Eddy Joel (aka Tito) Surinach, 32, of Allentown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surinach’s social media indicates he has been an owner operator with AES Trucking since August 2018.

Allentown, where Surinach lived, is approximately 14 miles from where his body was discovered.

The coroner ruled his death as “multiple blunt force injuries” as a result of the crash.

Investigators ruled the incident an “accident” and do not suspect foul play.
