Trucker Perishes in Mystery Underpass Crash

El Paso, TX – A trucker perished in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning along I-10 when he lost control of his big rig and slammed into overpass support columns.

According to a release from the El Paso Police Department (EPPD), 32-year-old trucker, Harjot Singh Goraya, of Riverside, CA, was operating westbound near the Mesa exit ramp at approximately 12:54 a.m. when he lost control of his tractor-trailer.

The 2019 Freightliner veered off of the roadway and into the eastbound lanes before colliding into the overpass support columns, investigators say.

According to a reporter on the scene from local news outlet KVIA, “about a dozen” emergency responders worked to extricate Goraya from the cab of the semi-truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are unsure as to what led to the crash.

“The road was wet from earlier rainfall but investigators have not yet determined how Goraya lost control of the vehicle,” EPPD said.

It is also unclear how fast Goraya was traveling at the time of the crash.
