Trucker Robbed at Knifepoint in Truck Stop Lot, Suspect Remains At Large
Salisbury, NC – Police in North Carolina are searching for a suspect they say robbed a trucker at knifepoint at a Love’s Travel Center in Salisbury.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), a trucker reported arriving to the Love’s located at 1105 Peeler Road off of Interstate 85 at Exit 71 around 7:53 p.m. on Thursday, January 14.
A report by local outlet Salisbury Post reported the driver — who’s identity was not released, other than stating he is from Texas — “parked in front of the [fuel] pumps… to take a shower.”
The report does not clarify if “parked in front of the [fuel] pumps” means the trucker parked in the lot perpendicular to the fuel pumps or in the fuel aisle.
The driver told authorities he took note of a man “walking from truck to truck” at the pumps as he was heading inside the building to take a shower.
Upon exiting the Love’s at approximately 9 p.m., the driver said he noticed the same man lingering around the truck entrance/exit.
The trucker told police as he arrived back to his truck, he was “grabbed from behind.”
He said the robber pressed a knife against his throat and demanded his wallet.
The driver complied, upon which time the thief ran towards the tire shop on the travel center’s property.
As the assailant was running away, he dropped the driver’s wallet.
According to the police report, the trucker saw his attacker enter a white Chrysler 300C, which fled the Love’s.
The trucker reported seeing two other people inside the vehicle as it drove away.
He retrieved his wallet from the parking lot to discover only $300 in cash missing.
RSCO reviewed video surveillance footage from the tire shop, which corroborated the trucker’s story.
Authorities added the video footage showed the robber entering the Chrysler from the passenger side of the vehicle.
Police said the trucker was to drop off a load in Mooresville, which is approximately twenty miles West of where the robbery took place.
As of publishing, the robber is still at large.
The trucker described the robber as a black man wearing a black hoodie and jeans.
Authorities are asking anyone with any information to call RSCO at (704) 216-8700 or Crime Stoppers are 1 (866) 639-5245.
