Truckers Band Together To Save Man From Highway Suicide
Muskegon County, Michigan – Truckers banded together to save a man who appeared to want to end it all on Tuesday along US-31.
Muskegon Police say a 33-year-old man was discovered dangling off of an overpass above US-31 on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities say the Muskegon man was a suspect in an assault against a female earlier that day at a nearby residence.
The police arrived to the home where the alleged assault took place at approximately 12:40 p.m., but the man had fled the scene, according to investigators.
However, he was spotted some time later hanging from an overpass appearing to want to commit suicide by jumping onto the roadway below.
The man climbed over the overpass guardrail and appeared ready to jump.
That’s when truckers came to the rescue.
A group of big rigs banded together and stopped under the overpass preventing the man from doing any damage to himself or any one else, police said.
Authorities said they were able to talk the man off of the bridge after the quick-thinking truckers stepped in to save the day.
The man was taken into custody at approximately 1:05 p.m. and transported to a nearby hospital where police say he will undergo a mental evaluation.
A similar situation occurred last April when thirteen truckers respond to call from Michigan police to help save a man threatening suicide by jumping off an overpass.
It’s yet another example of truckers making a real difference.
