Truckers Blamed For Two Icy Pileups In Montana Involving More Than 25 Vehicles

Park City, MT – A trucker was seriously injured in one of two major pileups along Interstate 90 in Montana over the weekend.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), five big rigs were involved in an accident on Sunday along westbound I-90 near mile marker 423.

Investigators said multiple semis were traveling too fast for conditions on the snowy roadway leading to a chain reaction crash causing two rigs to burst into flames.

MHP released images from the scene revealing heavily damaged rigs left mangled and charred.

A trucker, who’s identity has not been released, had to be extricated from one of the vehicles and was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

However, MHP has since updated his condition and is reported to be stable.

Moments before the big rigs collided, two pickup trucks also crashed after one of them hauling a camper trailer jackknifed while also traveling westbound on I-90 near the 420 mile marker.

All other injuries in these accidents were said to be minor.

Trucker Blamed For 20-Vehicle Pileup

Just a day earlier, a 20-vehicle pileup occurred around 1:20 p.m. also along I-90 about one mile west of Park City.

Investigators were initially called to the scene of a jackknifed semi that had slid into the median and was disabled.

MHP Trooper Jake Parker told the Billings Gazette that officers were investigating that accident when another big rig traveling east failed to slow down and yield to signs posted on the road.

The tractor-trailer then almost struck a Stillwater County deputy on the scene before also jackknifing and causing a pileup of vehicles behind it on the icy interstate.

“There were some injuries, but thankfully, they were just minor,” Parker said.
