Truckers Targeted In 4 State Enforcement Blitz This Week

Law enforcement officials say their “Eyes On 94” enforcement blitz targeting “commercial vehicles” is to “increase awareness by means of high visibility enforcement on the I-94 corridor.”

Macomb County, Michigan – Sate troopers from Michigan, Illinois and Indiana, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, are joining forces in a coordinated enforcement operation this week.

The “Eyes On 94” enforcement blitz, officials say, is aimed at reducing commercial vehicle crashes along the I-94 corridor and other highways. “Really, the emphasis of the operation is on commercial vehicles,” said Michigan State Police Inspector Patrick Morris.

During the initiative, law enforcement will focus on violations by commercial vehicles that include speeding, following too close, improper passing, distracted driving and improper lane use. The multi-state effort begins at the Indiana state line and ends at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Michigan.

“We hope to increase awareness by means of high visibility enforcement on the I-94 corridor, which is prone to weather-related crashes this time of year involving interstate commercial vehicle drivers,” MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Commander Capt. Michael Krumm said in a release.

As a reminder, last year’s blitz resulted in the stopping of more than 700 trucks, 350 citations issued and 373 warnings. This year’s initiative runs December 3rd through Dec. 7th.
