Trucking Couple Killed in Fiery Two-Big Rig Crash
Sierra Blanca, TX – A husband and wife truck driving team died on Friday afternoon in a crash with another tractor-trailer along Interstate 10 near the Sierra Blanca border checkpoint.
According to Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West, the fatal accident occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m.
Investigators say Estes Express Lines truck driver Deborah Driggars Regan, 62, of Springtown, TX, was behind-the-wheel of a tractor-trailer pulling doubles when, for an unknown reason, she failed to slow as she approached the checkpoint.
The big rig then slammed into the rear of a FedEx tractor-trailer, officials say.
The FedEx rig was also pulling doubles.
The impact from the crash caused Regan’s truck to become engulfed in flames.
Regan’s husband, Terry Dexter Huey, 64, was in the sleeper at the time of the crash, investigators say.
Both Regan and Huey perished, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS).
Investigators say little remained of the truck due to the intense nature of the blaze.
Local news outlet KVIA is reporting a representative with Estes Express Lines indicated the couple had been driving for the company for more than twenty years.
The driver of the FedEx rig, Gurcharan Singh, 52, and his passenger Fidadelfo Cebreros Juarez, 56, each suffered injuries.
They were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care, TxDPS says.
