Trucking Group Declares ‘Political War’ on Lawmaker Who Wants to Seize Rigs From Convoying Truckers
Washington, D.C. — A U.S. congressman is facing backlash within some parts of the trucking industry after an incendiary post on social media called for seizing the big rigs belonging to truckers involved in numerous convoys.
Earlier this week, House of Representatives member Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) took to social media to sound off about trucker-led convoys en route to Washington, D.C.
“Perfect time to impound and give the trucks to small trucking companies looking to expand their business,” he Tweeted.

Rep. Gallego’s comments were shocking to many throughout the trucking industry even though the representative of Arizona’s 7th Congressional District is a member of the far left-wing Progressive Caucus.
In response, one trucking group declared “political war” on Mr. Gallego.
“Not on our watch, you Communist,” the Small Business in Transportation Coalition (SBTC) Tweeted.

SBTC Executive Director James Lamb called Rep. Gallego’s comments “egregious” and vowed to work to unseat him in the upcoming mid-term elections.
“This is eerily reminiscent of the 1959 Cuban communist revolution’s seizure, nationalization, and expropriation of private property,” Lamb told Transportation Nation Network (TNN). “SBTC will not stand idly by as the Left attempts to take America and the trucking industry in the direction of communism.”
While Lamb was quick to point out the SBTC does not organize strikes, slow rolls, or work stoppages, he stressed the 15,000-member group of dues-paying truckers and motor carriers will “speak out whenever drivers are abused and their rights and bodies trampled.”
Earlier this month, the SBTC forcefully condemned the brutal crackdown on Canadian truckers protesting in Ottawa during Freedom Convoy 2022, calling the government’s suspension of civil liberties “inhumane abuse.”
