Two Truck Drivers Killed in Fiery Crossover Accident
Elkhart County, IN — Two truck drivers tragically perished in a fiery crossover crash along an Indiana roadway over the weekend.
The deadly accident occurred on Saturday, December 18, at approximately 1:04 a.m. on the Indiana Toll Road near mile marker 90.5.
A preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police (ISP) determined that a 2013 International tractor-trailer was traveling westbound when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center median and entered the eastbound lanes.
As the International was crossing the eastbound lanes a semi traveling eastbound struck the trailer the International was pulling.
This semi then caught on fire and became fully engulfed, ISP stated.
The driver of the International, identified to Transportation Nation Network (TNN) as Dennis Rushing, 50, Chicago, IL, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the second semi, identified by his family as Timothy Novak, 34, was also pronounced deceased at the scene.
ISP told TNN that Rushing was operating for Orland Park, IL-based Evennon Inc., while Novack was pulling doubles for FedEx.
According to a GoFundMe campaign set up by Novak’s brother to raise funds for funeral costs, the truck driver was a father of two young girls and lived with his widowed mother.
ISP told TNN an investigation remains ongoing.
