U.S. Truck Driver Charged in ‘Crazy’ Big Rig Human Smuggling Bust

Laredo, TX — A truck driver is facing a slew of felony counts of human smuggling after Texas authorities discovered dozens of illegal migrants crammed inside his semi-truck.

On Tuesday, investigators with the Laredo Police Department (LPD) pulled over a semi-truck and found 28 illegal migrants.

Bill Melugin, a Fox News correspondent covering the ongoing chaos at the U.S. southern border, called the bust “crazy” as the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) said each illegal migrant admitted to paying up to $16,000 to be smuggled to San Antonio, TX, where they would then spread out into ten states throughout the country.

TXDPS said 21 males, six females and one juvenile male were inside the truck.

The truck driver, Dartavious Raytrell Dixon, a U.S. citizen residing in Houston, TX, was arrested and has been charged with 28 felony counts of human smuggling.

Melugin also reported Dixon told investigators he was recruited for the job by a cartel using the popular social media app WhatsApp.
