U.S. Trucker and Dozens More Arrested in Large Big Rig Human Smuggling Operation
Laredo, TX – A trucker from the United States was arrested on Monday in the second major big rig human smuggling bust this month.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), the incident occurred during the early morning hours of April 13, when Laredo North Border Patrol agents performed a traffic stop on a white tractor hauling a white trailer at mile marker 31, just north of Laredo.
A service k-9 alerted to the trailer.
Upon further examination, the agents discovered 28 individuals, all illegally present in the U.S. from the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, and Ecuador.
The individuals and the truck driver were taken into custody pending investigation.
This is the second big rig human smuggling bust this month.
The first occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 5, at the I-35 checkpoint in Laredo.
In that case, a U.S. trucker was arrested when CBP agents discovered 32 individuals, including one juvenile, inside the trailer.

CBP says that despite the ongoing international COVID-19 pandemic, and the cross-border travel restrictions currently in place, alien smugglers continue to “endanger the lives of individuals they transport, and put at risk the health and safety of our Nation.”
Smugglers continue to show a complete disregard for human life & the pandemic by transporting individuals in close quarters.
