WATCH: Freedom Convoy Organizer Leaves Reporter Stumped With a Simple Question

Ottawa, ON — A Freedom Convoy organizer seemingly left a reporter stumped during a press conference over the weekend.

At a press briefing on Saturday, February 19, amid a brutal police crackdown on truckers and other protesters, Freedom Convoy spokesperson Tom Marazzo gave an impassioned statement before answering a series of questions.

In one notable exchange with a reporter who was clearly bothered by the demonstration, Mr. Marazzo appears to leave the journalist quite perplexed.

“Since the beginning the police have asked you to leave. They’ve declared this occupation illegal for two weeks now,” the reporter states before asking, “Do you not have some responsibility here for what happened today?”

Marazzo simply responds, “What laws have we broken?”

“I think the police have” the reporter awkwardly begins to reply before Marazzo interrupts and more emphatically repeats the question.

“They’re parking infractions… parking infractions,” a clearly frustrated Marazzo retorts. “You tell me? Next question.”

The reporter is left hanging his head.

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the never-before-used federal Emergencies Act — effectively suspending civil liberties — in an effort to quash the weeks-long demonstration.

While Ottawa police have since cleared the streets towing away nearly 100 vehicles and arresting approximately 200 people in connection to the protest — including multiple organizers — most of the charges thus far are for non-violent crimes such as mischief, counseling to commit the offense of mischief, counseling to commit the offense of disobey court order (s.127) and counseling to commit the offense of obstruct police.

Meanwhile, a growing number of protesters and those who donated money and/or support to the cause are now having their bank accounts frozen, property seized, and insurance suspended or revoked without a legal proceeding to justify it.

Critics point to these extreme measures, especially in light of the nature of the charges laid, and argue such an unprecedented power grab was both unwarranted and a dangerous precedent to set for the future of free speech and peaceful assembly rights.
