Wrong-Way Car Collides With Big Rig in ‘Serious’ Early Morning Crash
Salt Lake City — Utah authorities are reporting multiple injuries after a passenger vehicle traveling the wrong way collided with a big rig early Sunday morning.
Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) investigators said the “serious crash” occurred in the northbound lanes along Interstate 215W.
Four people where transported to the hospital with one person in critical condition, UHP said.
Images from the scene provided by UHP reveal a damaged Covenant Transport tractor pulling double trailers having come to rest against a concrete barrier.
The rear trailer is partially hanging over the concrete median as well.
The passenger vehicle was left mangled almost beyond recognition.
UHP did not indicate how fast the car was traveling at the time of the crash.
It is also not yet known if the truck driver (or a team driver/passenger) was among those who suffered injuries.
UHP closed the roadway and diverted traffic to SR-201.
However, the roadway has since been reopened.
Update: The closure is expected to last into the 10 o’clock hour. https://t.co/krFYG7wFfU
